William "Bill" McPhee, 84, of Tampa, Florida passed away peacefully on January 2, 2024 in Tampa Fla. He was the son of Albert and Corrine McPhee and he was married to Pearl McPhee whom he met at Franklin Jr. High and loved her for his whole life, they had 51 years together.
Bill grew up in South Tampa, with his parents, two brothers and two sisters. Bill proudly served in the U.S. Air Force and once home married Pat and began a career as a truck driver for Jack’s Cookies. He later drove his own OTR rig for many years. He loved being on the road and was proud of “Big Red,” his Peterbilt. Bill was also an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing – pulling more than his share of bass from local lakes and ponds – and skeet shooting. In his later years, he enjoyed making wooden toys and small craft items for friends and family. Along the way, Bill loved to cook – whether a grilled steak, crab chilau, or “Mickey Mouse” pancakes for the grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his three daughters, Cindy (Spartanburg, S.C.), Susan (Atlanta, Ga.) and Cheryl (Tampa Fla.). Jozanne Mayor of Tampa is a life-long friend of the family and he considered her his fourth daughter. Bill had eight grandchildren, Kyle (Tampa, Fla.), Travis (Tampa, Fla.), Megan (Charlotte, N.C.), Mallory (Brooksville, Fla.), Nikki (Charlotte, N.C.), Sarah (Washington, D.C.), Alix (Charleston, S.C.) and Mahria (Brattleboro, Vt.) and four great-grandchildren.
Bill passed away on his wedding anniversary, going home to be with his beloved wife of 51 years, Pat (Sweat). We will miss you here, Bill, but know that you are enjoying that blessed reunion.
A graveside service for Bill will be held 11 a.m. Monday, January 15, 2024 in Garden of Memories Cemetery, 4207 East Lake Avenue, Tampa, Florida.
