Alice Matetzschk

Alice Joy “Pug” Matetzschk, 89, passed away Monday, January 5 at Will-O-Bell Nursing home in Bartlett. Alice was born on April 17, 1936 to Gus and Alice Sakewitz. She was the only girl of seven siblings.

On September 5, 1954 she married Elton Albert Matetzschk. They were married 56 years before his passing. She was a lifetime resident of Coupland, Texas where she and Elton raised their three children. She was a member of St. Peter's Church.

She loved spending time with family and friends and was a phenomenal cook. She even won the Rowe Valley chili cook-off a time or two. She enjoyed playing cards on holidays and never showed up without her coin purse full of quarters. She loved to dance and could often be found at the SPJST in Taylor, enjoying a cold Bud Light and some country music. She had an unwavering love for the Dallas Cowboys. Whether you knew her as Alice, Aunt Pug, Nana or Mom, she would always welcome you with a big hug.

She is survived by her daughter, Terry Kuntschik (Chris Smith), sons Rick Matetzschk (Jeana), and Craig Matetzschk; grandchildren: Kellie Marak (Robert), Corey Kalnasy (Erin Griffith), April Knapek (Justin), Hailey Kuntschik (Adam Janak) and William Matetzschk, great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Dakota Marak, Hayden and Kaleb Knapek, Hudson Janak and Triston and Natalie Griffith; sister in laws Wandeen Sakewitz and Joyce Sakewitz.

She was preceded in death by her husband Elton, her parents; brothers and sister-in-laws Gus Sakewitz, Jr., Milburn “Sonny” Sakewitz and wife Katherine, Kenneth Sakewitz, Kermit Sakewitz and wife Betty, W.T. “Billy” Sakewitz, and Harry Sakewitz; nephew Mike Sakewitz and niece Sandra Trussell.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 13 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Condra Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 14 at 10:00 AM at St. Peter's Church in Coupland. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Corey Kalnasy, Robert Marak, Dakota Marak, Justin Knapek, William Matetzschk, and Adam Janak.

Alice Matetzschk will be laid to rest at Coupland Cemetery.
