Sue Holmstrom passed peacefully on August 9, 2016, at the age of 84. She was born on February 8, 1932 in Hutto, Texas, to Emery (Dutch) & Eva Marie Nelson Blackman. She graduated from Hutto High School and married James Carroll Holmstrom of Hutto.
Sue was an independent woman of many talents – homemaker, gardener, artist, volunteer, and avid researcher. She was active for many years at Hutto Lutheran Church and in the Hutto community. Sue was bookkeeper, employed by The Twin Shop in Taylor and later at Hutto Co-op. She also spent some time working as a teacher’s aid and a medical receptionist.
No matter what she took on, she pursued and completed it with passion, determination, and conviction. One of her biggest accomplishments was the writing and publishing of her book, “Hutto & Hippos” in the year 2000, covering over 100 years of the history of Hutto schools and the local people. In addition, Sue spent several years researching the Hutto Cemetery and was instrumental in getting the state certification for the historical marker at the cemetery. In 2006, she spoke about the history of Hutto Cemetery at the dedication ceremony. In a sense, Sue was an unofficial historian of Hutto who loved preserving the memories of those who lived in Hutto.
Sue is survived by son, Russell Holmstrom and wife, Marilyn, of Lake Limestone; son, Terry Holmstrom and wife, Tammy, of Hutto; and daughter, Jan Kruse, of New Braunfels. Sue (Mema) was blessed with 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Emery and Marie Blackman; daughter, Sue Liane Holmstrom; sister and brother-in-law Jimmye and Andy Anderson; sister and brother-in-law Dora Kathleen (Dody) and Arnold Almquist; and nephew Bob Anderson.
Visitation is Friday, August 12, 2016 from 10:00 to 11:00am at Condra Funeral Home, Taylor Texas. Service will follow the visitation from 11:00 to 12:00 with interment at Hutto City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Scott Almquist, Kevin Greer, Trey Greer, Steve Johnson, Brandon Holmstrom, and Darin Tiedemann.
Memorials may be made to the Hutto Food Pantry, Hutto Lutheran Church or charity of your choice.
