He received his formal education from Granger ISD. He confessed a belief in Christ t an early age while attending Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Rev. George W. Barner. He later became a member of the Galilee Baptist Church in Austin, Texas under the leadership of the late Rev. O.T. Arnold. George loved serving the Lord in whatever capacity he could.
He met Clorine F. Cleveland, the love of his life in Granger and united in Holy Matrimony on February 23, 1957. They were blessed to share 57 years of marriage. He was the proud and loving father to three children, he was really the epitome of a family man!
He was a long-tenured and experienced employee of Condra Funeral Home in Taylor, Texas. George had initially celebrated his retirement in 2012 after 50 years with Condra. This dedication to working was exemplified as he continued his labors from 2012 thru to the time of his passing. His act of service was truly demonstrated as he always served many of those living in his community. He served many years as the caretaker for St. Love All Baptist Church. He ensured the property was immaculately maintained, the doors unlocked, lights brightly shining for Service, and during the winter season the Sanctuary was heated prior to the arrival of the members. In his leisure, he enjoyed picking pecans in season, cutting the lawns of elderly neighbors, and driving anyone who needed transportation. He also enjoyed taking road trips often to see old landmarks in the surrounding towns. His greatest joy was spending quality time under his favorite “shade tree” with his family and friends.
George is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee Sims and Emma Brooks Sims; his loving wife, Clorine F. Sims; his sisters, Lou Etta Sedwick, Mary Jane Cummings, Ramona McFarland, Thelma Demerson and Annie Mae Lindsey; and his brothers, Robert Sims and W. Leo Daniels Sims.
