Susie attended parochial school at Zion Lutheran till the 6th grade, when her dad needed her help on the farm. When she turned 16, she went to work for Scottish Rite Dormitory in Austin. During her time working there she met Gilbert. After their marriage, she became a true farmwife. After Linda and Leonard started school she began working at Pflugerville ISD cafeteria. In later years, she worked at several sewing factories in the Taylor area including Taylor Bedding Mfg. where she worked for 20 years.
Susie always put her Lord first in her life and taught Sunday school at Trinity for a few years. She was a long standing member of the Altar Guild which brought her much enjoyment.
Susie was an excellent cook and made the best lemon, coconut and chocolate meringue pies. Her coffee cakes and donuts were also very tasty. Even though she was a woman, she made some of the best tasting barbecue. If she wasn’t busy outside working in her garden and flowerbeds, she was in the kitchen cooking up something good and homemade from scratch. She always wanted her family over for Sunday lunch, but don’t even think about doing dishes- that was her duty- she said it relaxed her.
Susie loved her two grandsons and doted on them. Lance was there every day for lunch and Jared spent several nights a week there- both keeping her company and doing odd jobs for her as needed. There will never be another Ma.
