Lillian Mercedes Zurita, age 93, of Tampa transitioned into Heaven on January 23, 2024. She was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and lived in Los Angeles and Tampa. Lillian was a devoted mother, teacher, and devout Roman Catholic.
Lillian was preceded in death by her mother Genoveva; father Eduardo; and son Hugo.
She is survived by her sisters Themys Caamaño de Espaillat and Eunice Pou; brother Eros Caamaño; daughter Karim Zurita; son Steven Zurita (Meiling) and grandsons Marcus and Miles; husband Gabriel Oswaldo Zurita; grand-daughter Irenie Maria Zurita Glover (Stephen) and great-granddaughters Elena and Anna; and by her many relatives, coworkers, and friends here and back home in Santo Domingo.
A beloved Hermana, Mama, Tia, Abuela, and friend – Lillian exuded kindness, hospitality, generosity, and grace. A mama to all, she could never resist loving babies, children, and her family alike. As the eldest, her visits would bring generations together to celebrate the love of family, music, food, and togetherness. Her love of baseball, especially the Dodgers and Rays, gave her hours of enjoyment. Her legacy of caring and kindness lives on through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. We will always miss her embrace of the everyday joys of life -- whether in music, a meal well prepared, or quality time with her loved ones.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Lillian’s name to the AdventHealth Foundation in Tampa, FL. The family thanks the dedicated team members who loved and cared for her during her brave battle.
