HAMMERBERG, Ruth E. “Nana” (nee Haynsworth), 96, entered into eternal rest on March 30, 2016. Ruth was born in Ft. Meade, Florida in 1919. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years, Chester, and was the last surviving sibling of her five brothers and three sisters. Ruth is survived by her son, John and daughter-in-law Debbie Hammerberg; daughter, Joyce and son-in-law Charlie Halasz; four grandchildren, Tim Hammerberg, Krista Kyte (Tom), Susan Whitehead (Bill) and Lisa Ortiz (Ray); and seven great-grandchildren, Aaron, Nicolas, and Sofia Ortiz, Tyler and Alex Whitehead and Liam and Emily Kyte. In 1957, Ruth and Chester moved to Thonotosassa when they purchased Steve’s Rustic Lodge, a well-known and popular steak house located on the lake. They sold the restaurant and retired to a wonderful life of fishing in Balsam Lake, Wisconsin in the summers and selling oranges in Thonotosassa in the winters. The family will receive friends at 11:30 a.m. with a service beginning at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Blount & Curry, Terrace Oaks Chapel, Temple Terrace. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to LifePath Hospice of Tampa. On behalf of the entire family, we want to thank the staff and management of Stone Ledge Manor for the loving care and attention they afforded to Ruth in her final four years; also to Hospice for helping the family and Ruth through her final days. Ruth was a loving soul who will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her. Words of comfort may be expressed at www.blountcurryterraceoaks.com.
