

Lobo, Sadie Lentz age 94, of Temple Terrace passed away Monday, May 4, 2015, at University Village in Tampa. Born in Commerce, GA on February 3, 1921, she came to Florida with her family from Stony Point, NC at age five and resided in Florida since that time with occasional visits to Cullowhee in the mountains of North Carolina. She received a BS in Economics from Florida State College for Women, now FSU, following which she worked in the State Dept. of Education as secretary to Dr. Edgar L. Morphet, Director of the Division of Administration and Finance, in Tallahassee. She subsequently served under the Governor’s Office as General Secretary to the Florida Citizens Committee on Education for the study of education in Florida, which lead to the passage of the Minimum Foundation Program in 1947. She worked during two Florida legislative sessions, while on leave from DOE, for Senator Wallace Sturgis of Ocala. She then transferred to Gainesville, FL, as secretary to the Dean of the College of Education at the University of Florida for two years. She
came back to Tampa, following her marriage to Tony Lobo, her husband of forty-six years, who proceeded her in death on April 26, 1996. During those years she worked for the Hillsborough County School Board and four Superintendents of Schools. She was once considered as a candidate for a school naming due to her 45 year career of service in this position with the Hillsborough County School System. In Tallahassee, Sadie was a member of the Junior Woman’s Club, and in Gainesville, a member of the American Assoc. of University Women (AAUW). In Tampa, she completed additional studies at FSU, USF, UF and HCC to maintain her teaching certification. She served on the Board of Directors of Suncoast Schools Federal Credit Union (the first director elected wholly by the membership by ballot for nine years). She was president of local and state associations of educational secretaries. Served as a Volunteer at University Community Hospital, Tampa Branch AAUW, Florida Literary HCC, Literary Trainers in Reading, HCC. Member of Advisory Committees of Maas Brothers
Department Stores (Tampa), YWCA Board of Directors, YMCA/YWCO Board of Directors, President. Sadie was the daughter of John Henry and Mildred Lentz, deceased in 1967 and 1976 respectively, who settled in Seffner upon moving to Florida from North Carolina in January 1926. She and her six brothers and two sisters attended public schools in Seffner, Brandon, and Plant City. Mrs. Lobo was an honor graduate of Brandon High school. She is survived by her one son Lance Cory Lobo, her brothers Frank Lentz of Tampa, FL and Henry Lentz of Clarksville, TN, and numerous nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday May 9, 2015 at 3:00 PM at Blount & Curry Terrace Oaks Funeral Home. Visitation will be Saturday from 2 to 4 at the chapel. Burial will take place at Sunset Memory Gardens.
