

Gene Schwartz, age 95, of Temple, Texas passed away on Friday, March 12, 2021 at the William R. Courtney. Gene was born October 15, 1925 in Mills County, Texas to Charlie D Schwartz and Matha Behrens Schwartz. Gene moved to San Saba then to Austin in 1941 where he grew up. He attended Austin High School and graduated from San Saba High School in 1944. After graduating from High School he attended the University of Texas. Gene served in the Marines. He married Shirley Jean McClellan on May 14, 1949. They moved to Waco in August of 1949 and then to Temple in 1958. He worked for HEB Food Stores for 29 years and then founded Service Vending, Inc. in 1977. Professionally, he was a member of the National Automatic Merchandise Association, served as the President of Texas Lions Club, served as a Director and Sectary of Texas Association Merchandise, served as President of the Temple Lions Club, Temple Lions Handicap Children Foundation, Inc, Temple Lions Club Parks, Inc., Bell County Society for Handicap Children, Temple United Fund, Bluebonnet Girl Scout Council, Inc., C.A.C. 1969-70, Western Hills Elementary PTA and also served as Director of the Texas Lions Camp for handicap children, past director and VP Temple Camber of Commerce, United Fund Drive Chairman and Deacon Presbyterian Church. Gene volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader, PTA Member and past President for Travis and Temple High School, served as President, Chapter EW, P.E.O and was a member and past President of the Rotary Club of Temple. Gene is survived by his loving wife Shirley Jean, children, Sally Curlee and husband Craig, Susie Carver and husband Dennis, Jim Schwartz and wife Denise, grandchildren, Amanda Jones Niki Chamberlin, Tiffany Jennings, Jackson Schwartz, Liza Schwartz, Samantha Schwartz, Sean Schwartz, great-grandchildren, Brenna Lara, Maia Deshotel, Brooklyn Jones, Craig Jones, Madeline Chamberlin, Anna Chamberlin, Reid Chamberlin, Matt Jones, Erik Jones, Amanda Jones, Trace Shepphard, Ethan Rodriguez, Levi Polanco and great-great grandchildren, Camila Curlee and Nicholas Isaias Lara.
