A visitation will be held from 10:00 am - 12 noon, Friday, January 17th at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Temple. Graveside services will be held at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors on Friday, January 17 at 2:00 pm. Pastor Scott Meyers will be officiating.

Lt. Col. McKinney was born August 26, 1920 in Commerce, Texas. After being raised mostly in San Antonio, he then joined the United States Cavalry in 1939. Over the next 30 years, he held many positions as an NCO, Warrant Officer, and Officer. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the Pacific Theatre. He was stationed in many locations, including Germany (twice), Korea, and in the U. S. in Texas, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Kansas, Louisiana, Colorado, and Indiana. After retiring in 1968, he worked for Griggs Equipment Co. in Belton, Texas. He has been a member of Western Hills Church of Christ since the mid 1970's.

He is survived by his son, John McKinney of Mansfield, Texas; a daughter Sharon Castleberry of Temple, four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
