John Mack Holmes
26 October, 1951 – 5 April, 2021
John Mack Holmes October 26, 1951 to April 5, 2021 In honor of John Mack Holmes, we believe we are to celebrate his life and his family legacy. In listening to comments from people throughout his life as well as the comments that have been expressed since his passing on Monday, April 5, 2021, John Mack was thought of as – loving, honest, hardworking, caring, a good friend, over all just a good ol boy. John Mack Holmes is just one of the names this loved and loving man was called but Son, Husband, Dad, and Papa were his favorites. His dad, John Mitchell Holmes and mom, Minta LaVerne Holmes were proud to call him “son.” Born to them on October 26, 1951 in Georgetown Texas, John Mack was the baby of four sisters. Desiree “Desi” A. Holmes, his loving wife was also proud to call him not only her husband but her best friend. Desi always said John Mack was a better husband than she was a wife throughout their 41 years of marriage. Their love for one another was unwavering. Dustin Mitchell Holmes and Laurin Nickoal Loftin were honored to call him dad as he was a great mentor to them from childhood to adult instilling in them many traits that have shaped them into the successful adults they have become. His love for them was known to anyone who knew him. He accepted his daughter in law, Constance Brooke Holmes and son in law, Clayton Wayne Loftin with open arms and appreciated the love and care they have brought to his children’s lives. Last but not least are two grandchildren, Haley Brooke and Alan Mitchell Holmes, who brought him enormous joy. He so enjoyed hearing them call him Papa John. John Mack was always anticipating the next interaction with Haley and Mitch if in person or virtual, a phone call or his presence at one of their events. He was a proud and honored to be their Papa. John Mack was at his heart a farmer and rancher. He also enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking but always said even those activities were more fun shared with his grandchildren. Since retirement John’s favorite pastime was fishing on the Texas Gulf Coast where he and Desi resided. John Mack retired from Fort Hood after a lengthy career as a building maintenance supervisor as well State of Texas in building maintenance. He will forever live in his families' hearts.

With heartfelt condolences and sympathies, my family and I send our prayers to the Holmes family. The first time I saw John was when he was baking cinnamon buns for Desi and how she anxiously waited to eat them. She often would share pictures or tell us of the wonderful food John would make while on our team meetings. May those memories and many more give you strength in the days ahead. We wish you peace, prayers, and blessings.

Our deepest condolences to the Holmes family. Prayers for comfort and peace during this difficult time. Mr. Holmes was always a delight to hear and see in the background during our morning virtual Teams calls. From clanging dishes baking for his sweetie to walking by in his floppy ranching hat to go ride around, he always put a smile on our faces. He was a delight for us that knew him from a distance and a true treasure to those that knew him personally. May you Rest In Peace and fly high with the Angels...

So sorry for you and your family. John Mack was a very kind and good man, as a young boy we talked on tin cans and sting for telephone, he would have me help him hunt worms and bugs for his new found baby birds. His parents where a big part of our lives growing up. Care for you and your family, The Rusty and Dee Gibbs Family, Linda Gibbs Merrill
