

Memorial services for John Anthony Pooler, 88, of Temple will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. He will receive full military honors. Father Alfred Pooler will officiate. John died Thursday, June 11, 2010 in a Temple hospital.
John was born January 14, 1922 in Seattle, Washington to Jack Pooler and Mary Costello Pooler. He joined the United State Army in 1944 serving in the Air Corpse. He served in the United States Air Force, retiring November 1, 1966 after more than 22 years of service. During his time in the service he received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal with 5 Bronze Lapel, Air Force Longevity Service Medal with 4 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster and the Air Force Commendation. John married Mary Louise Dukes June 24, 1983 in College Station. He lived in Labelle, FL and Bryan, TX before moving to Temple in 2006.
Mr. Pooler was preceded in death by his first wife Willa Mae Austin Pooler in 1979.
Survivors include his wife Mary of Temple; a brother Alfred Pooler of Sierra Madre, CA; a sister, Loretta Mittleman of Riverhead, NY; three step children, David Munday of Whiting, NJ, Susan Curtis of Spring, and John Munday of Harker Heights; three step grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren.
Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Temple has been entrusted with arrangements.
