Perry was born August 5, 1935 in Diana, TX, to Precious and Creola (Bowens) Wilborn. He grew up and attended school in the Longview, TX area prior to joining the military. Perry retired from the U.S. Army after 21+ years of service and continued to support his fellow veterans by working at the Olin E. Teague Veterans' Medical Center until 1995. A benefit of working at the VA was that he met his wife, Kim Faulkenburg, when he pursued purchasing her 1969 Ford Mustang, which he later lovingly restored and drove for many years until his speeding tickets became too expensive.
He was a talented woodworker, passionate gardener, and enjoyed fishing, especially trips to Port Aransas, TX. He loved barbequing for family and friends and was known for his brisket and homemade BBQ sauce. Perry was a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed watching Texas college sports. He enjoyed trips to Europe with Kim, and in his later years traveling throughout the United States in his motorhome with Kim and their dogs to visit National Parks and family.
Perry was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Virgie Mae Wilborn Skinner, and daughter-in-law, Yvonne Boyer Wilborn.
He is survived by his wife; son, Sammy Wilborn (Sunnyvale, CA), daughter Bonita Wilborn (DeSoto, TX) and son Perry Wilborn (DeSoto, TX); grandchildren Samuel Wilborn (San Jose, CA), Westly Wilborn, wife Michelle, (Castro Valley, CA), and Whitney Wilborn (San Jose, CA); great-grandson Winston Wilborn; and faithful companion Magnum.
In honoring Perry's wishes, no funeral will be held. However, a private graveside service with military honors will be held at a later date.
Kim would like to express her gratitude for the care given to Perry by Dr. Jen Murillo and Elizabeth Anyanda, FNP, Neuro-Oncology section at Vasicek Cancer Center; staff at Enhabit Hospice; Shanell from Right at Home; Moffat Volunteer Fire Department Emergency Services; and the love and support shown by our family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Perry's memory to Glioblastoma Foundation, P.O. Box 62066, Durham, NC 27715 or the Moffat Volunteer Fire Department, 5660 Lakeaire Blvd, Temple, TX 76502, or a charity of your choice.
