It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Ray Gene Held, a beloved father, brother, and friend, who left this world on January 13, 2026, just days shy of his 57th birthday.
Born on January 16, 1969, in Lawton, Oklahoma, Ray was a beacon of kindness, love, and unwavering faith throughout his life.
Ray’s life was marked by a steadfast devotion to his family and his faith. He served honorably in the Army Reserves, embodying a spirit of service and dedication. Ray pursued his education at Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma, where he earned a degree that paved the way for a self-taught career in computer programming. Over the years, he worked a multitude of jobs, from the bustling atmosphere of a movie theater to providing vital support at Microsoft.
A man of many interests, Ray was a passionate hobbyist. He found joy in leatherwork, crafting belts, wallets, and gun holsters, and he was a staunch advocate for his second amendment rights. Ray also embraced the world of technology, enjoying CB radios—holding a license for it—and getting lost in the immersive experiences of video games, particularly the MMORPG "Lord of the Rings Online" and flight simulation games. He had a love for loud music, often filling his vehicle with the exhilarating sound of electronic beats complemented by his two 10-inch subwoofers. Ray’s most defining characteristics were his kindness and sense of humor.
He was the kind of man who would light up a room with his repertoire of “Dad” jokes, always the first to share a smile or a lighthearted quip.
His warmth and generosity of spirit endeared him to all who knew him. Ray was deeply involved in his Christian faith. He was a devoted follower of the Lord Jesus Christ and actively participated in his church, sharing his convictions and the teachings of his faith with those around him.
Unfortunately Ray's life journey came to a close in Temple, Texas, due to complications related to his heart. He will be remembered not only for his kind and loving nature but also for the indelible mark he left on the lives of those he touched.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026 from 9:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 AM at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Temple, TX. Followed by burial at Hillcrest Cemetery, where family and friends will gather to celebrate the remarkable life of a truly extraordinary man.
Ray was preceded in death by his adopted father, Robert Whitetree, and his cherished granddaughters, Ava and Sylvie.
Those left to cherish his memory are his Children: Nathan Held, and his wife, Chloe, along with his granddaughter, Hadley Jean Held., Michelle Held, and her Fiancé, Jake (With Sons Cooper and Sean); Matthew Held, and his wife, Morgan (with daughter on the way);
Ray also leaves behind his loving brother, Brad Held, and his wife, Kary, along with their daughters, Brittany Swift (With child on the way) and Jessica Held; Father Hughie “Buddy” Pritchett and half sisters Misty, Misty, Jennifer, and Kerrie
In the hearts of his family and friends, Ray Gene Held will forever be remembered as a loving man whose legacy of support, kindness, and love for his family and faith will live on.
He may have departed from this world so soon, but his spirit will continue to shine brightly in the lives of all who loved him.
