

Marcella Matthews, 94, passed away August 17 after a lengthy illness. After a private burial, services are scheduled for August 20, at 2:00pm at Western Hills Church of Christ with Minister Scott Meyer officiating. Mrs. Matthews will be interred at Little Flock Cemetery.
Mrs. Matthews was a long time resident of the Bell County area. She was born August 23, 1916 to V.B. and Ester Jones in Teague, Texas. She married J.F. (Jeff) Matthews on September 18, 1938.
Mrs. Matthews was an active member of Western Hills Church of Christ since the 1940's. Mrs. Matthews worked as a Licensed Vocational nurse in the Temple area since her graduation from the nursing program at Scott and White Hospital in 1954. She was quite active in Vocational Nursing in Texas serving in several statewide offices including President, Vice resident, and Treasurer of the Texas League of Vocational Nurses and kept her nursing license up to date until she turned 80.
Mr. Matthews preceded her in death after 54 years of marriage in June of 1993, as did one sister, Zurlene Parsons, and a brother Verner B. Jones, Jr.
Survivors for Mrs. Matthews include one daughter, Marquita Baggerly, (husband Richard), a son, Larry Matthews (wife Marie) all of Temple, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Western Hills Church of Christ or the Arms of Hope Children's Home in Medina, Texas.
