The drag racing community has lost a legend with the passing of Tommy Freeman AKA "Dr. Hook" on Friday May 23, 2014. Tommy was born January 13, 1955 in Gadsden, AL to parents George and Peggy Freeman. Tommy married Carol Freeman on August 15, 1975.
Tommy will always be remembered by his many friends as Dr.Hook, Quickqrip and Jaws - he never met a stranger and made friends all over the country in his travels working at different racing events. He was truly able to have a job that he absolutely loved and put his heart and soul in to it. He was finally able to be close to home and worked for Little River Dragway in Academy TX for the past 3 yrs. He felt comfortable and loved to be around people who meant the most to him. He was feared by some but loved by all because they knew he had their best interest and safety as his number one priority. Tommy was a master at whatever he attempted and was always looking to achieve perfection which included his sense of humor.
Tommy is survived by his wife and best friend Carol of 39 yrs. Tommy was extremely loving and very proud of his son, Joshua of Kyle TX and daughter Randi of Austin as well as his "little Hook" grandson Luke of Austin. He also leaves behind his brother Ricky and wife Judy Freeman of Piedmont, AL and sister Sharon and husband Michael Richards of Pinson, AL. He is also survived by nephew Derek and nieces Misty, Jackie and Stevie.
A special thank you goes out to Travis Ryan and Kirk Wolf as well as Tommy’s extended families at both Little River Dragway and Desert Thunder Raceway in Midland, TX.
A memorial service is being planned and will be held at Little River Dragway in the near future. We will post information on Tommy’s facebook page once finalized as well as charitable organizations that Tommy would approve of for any contributions.
