

Betty Jean (Dowell) Easton, 94, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at the Gibson Hospice Center with her children at her side.
Betty was born January 25, 1931, in Gary, Indiana to Ralph Dowell and Justine (Ilas) Dowell. She attended Clay County schools, graduating from Brazil High School in 1949. She married Billy Ray Easton on September 17, 1950.
She is survived by her son, Randall Easton, her daughter Katherine Easton, (Chuck Anderson), her grandson Ryan Easton (Cherish), granddaughters Cassidy Fountain (Cory), and Justine Gibson. Betty was blessed with six great-grandchildren Ellie, Maci, and Bryce Easton, and Emma, Chloe, and Benjamin Fountain.
She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 60 years, Billy Ray, and her siblings, brothers Ralph Dowell, Glenn Dowell, Kenny Dowell, and sister Virginia Land and daughter-in-law, Myrna Easton.
Being of strong faith, Betty was a member of Dean Avenue Christian Church and a longtime member of North Terre Haute Christian Church. Betty was blessed with a beautiful voice and loved to share by singing at weddings, funerals, as well as being a member of a gospel quartet for several years. She worked at the Root Store downtown and Honey Creek Square for over 25 years. She loved cooking/baking and watching her family participate in sporting events, school functions, and concerts.
She wasn’t known as just “Betty” but also known to many as “Grandma” and “Grandma Great”. Her kindness, warmth, and welcoming spirit extend far beyond her immediate family touching countless lives.
Arrangements include a visitation from 4pm – 8pm on Tuesday, January 6th and a memorial service on Wednesday, January 7th at 11am, both at Roselawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow within the park.
