Obituary of Beverly Ann Williams
Beverly Ann Williams was born July 22, 1936 in Terre Haute, Indiana. The daughter of Audrey C. Norton and Gene Evans, Beverly was raised in West Terre Haute and Terre Haute and attended Gerstmeyer High School. She moved to Philadelphia, PA shortly after the birth of her son Steven in 1959, where she worked at various jobs and was an active member of the PTA there. Beverly returned to Terre Haute in 1967, where she took a job at the Columbia Housewares plant. In 1969 she met Jesse Williams, whom she wed in May 1970. Together with his four children from a previous marriage, they raised a family of five children with love and laughter. Jesse and Beverly purchased Northside Tire Service in 1976, which they owned and operated until their retirement in the early 2000’s. The business was good to them and allowed them to live a full life of family, friends and travel. They were active in local automobile clubs, were always willing to take in a stray dog or cat, and were particularly proud of the part they played in rebuilding the old Mill Dam in the mid-1980’s. In late 2017 Beverly’s health began a gradual decline, and in December she was diagnosed with cancer, which she ultimately succumbed to on May 10, 2018. Beverly was preceded in death by her husband Jesse in 2016, by her daughter Cathy Burgess in 2014, by her grandson Daniel Stewart in 2002 and by her granddaughter Rebecca Russell in 1982. She is survived by her sister Helen Blubaum, of Greencastle, her brother Bill Smiddy, of Terre Haute, and her sister Jane Muldoon, of Sevierville, TN; also, by her son Steven Norton, of Chula Vista, CA, her daughter Christine Russell, of Rockville, her daughter Linda Stewart, of Marina, CA, her son Larry Williams, also of Marina, CA, and several grandchildren. A ceremony honoring Beverly’s life will be held Sunday, May 20 at 10:00 AM at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, followed by interment at Roselawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 19, 2018 from 2:00-4:00 PM at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.mattoxwood.com
