Carl E. Smith, 94, of Terre Haute, passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2015. Carl was born on May 5th, 1921 in Buffalo, Wyoming to Thad and Lily N. Smith. He married Florence Webster January 15, 1943. He worked as a millwright and also on the B & O Railroad before retiring in 1981. He proudly served his country from August 1942 until December 1945 in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife and three children Joyce Shaffer and husband Jerry, Gary E. and fiancé Patty Webster, and James A. and wife Karen. Also survived by six grandchildren, Brian Shaffer, Kim Irish, Gary Jr. and Kevin Lee, Eric and James Jr; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Donald, and half-brother Virgil.
Services will be held at Mattox-Wood Funeral home Friday, November 27 2015 at 1:00 pm with a visitation prior from 10 am- 1:00pm. Reverend Mark Fleschner and Reverend Larry Mathias will be officiating.
