Obituary of David and Madie Abner
David Lynn Abner, 95, of Kingwood, Texas, formally of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, January 24 in Kingwood, Texas. David was born September 14, 1927 in Parrish, Alabama to Theodore Roosevelt Abner and Pauline Edith Ferguson Abner. Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Madie M. Martin Abner, three daughters, Debra Johnson, Terre Haute, IN; Connie Richards (Brett), Kingwood, TX; Lynn Tanner (Alva), Vancleave, MS; six grandchildren, Nicole Johnson, Indianapolis, IN; Jeffrey Johnson, Terre Haute, IN; Katherine “Katie” Richards, Kingwood, TX; Amber Gill (Shane), Vancleave, MS; Shauna Clements (Patrick), Decatur, Tennessee; Carla Richmond (Marcus), Biloxi, MS; seven great grandchildren; sister, Martha Sue High (Donald), Garden Grove, CA; sister-in-law, Rosalie Martin, Carmel, IN; step-sister, Sharon Ward (Bill), Myrtle Beach, SC; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was proceeded in death by his parents, two step-mothers, Mildred McPeak Abner and Velora Johnson Abner; son, David Michael Abner; grandson, Alva “Gene” Tanner; sister, Edith “Joyce” Langsett; brother in laws, Richard Langsett; James Martin; Michael “Frank” Martin; Charles Martin; son-in-law, Drake Johnson, step-brother, Ronald Johnson David proudly served 20 years with the United States Air Force in aircraft maintenance. After returning to Terre Haute, he worked for the United States Post Office as a letter carrier for 20 years. Following that retirement, Dave worked at Sam’s Club, Terre Haute, for approx. 15 years before moving to Kingwood, TX. David was a life member of Riley American Legion, Air Force Sergeants Assn., Air Force Assn., and The Retired Enlisted Assn. David was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed a good cup of coffee, gardening, landscaping, good music, baseball, college basketball and old westerns. The family would like to thank the staff at Kingwood Hospital for the care and compassion they provided. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 1 PM at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 11 AM until time of services at the funeral home. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
