Dennis worked as a fireman custodian for the Vigo County School Corp. He also worked for Vigo County Farm Equipment and Terre Haute Ford. He loved to work on cars, mushroom hunt, bingo, and most of all, he loved his family, grandchildren and great-grandchild.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Alan Shaffer and Forest Lee Shaffer.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda (Endress) Shaffer; two children, Angela (Stacey) Thomas and Dennis Jr. (Amy) Shaffer; one sister, Kathy (Dennis) Brannon; four brothers, Ronnie (Kathy) Shaffer, Larry (Diana) Shaffer, Mark (Paula) Shaffer and Herchel (Alexzina) Shaffer; seven grandchildren, Desiree (Kyle) Baumer, Kimberlyn Thomas, Shalane Thomas, Landyn Thomas, McKinzey Shaffer, Jacob VanNess and Kay Shaffer; two step-grandchildren, Ember and Cole; one great-grandchild, Deklan Baumer; and his best friend, Buddy, who he called his "little white monkey."
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, May 5, 2018, at Roselawn Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. with Pastor Donald Endress officiating. Interment will follow the service at Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers serving are Larry Shaffer, Ronnie Shaffer, Mark Shaffer, Herschel Shaffer, Dennis Brannon and Ray Barrett.
