Obituary of Floyd Clarence Burt Jr.
Floyd Clarence Burt, Jr., 93, of Terre Haute, passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at Springhill Village. He was born on June 14, 1926, in Terre Haute to Floyd C. Burt, Sr. and Stella Ogden Stout Burt. Floyd is survived by his son, Edward Burt and wife Donna of Brazil and daughter, Pam Drake and husband Larry of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Michael Burt (Christi), Robert Burt (Marianne), Michelle Criss, Chris Drake (Melissa), and Lisa Van Reed (Logan); great-grandchildren, Justin, Christopher, Madison, Kendall, Grace, Max, and Sophia Burt, Kaylee and Alyssa Criss, Lyndsey and Haylee Drake, Lex and Grayson Van Reed, and Skylar Long (Torie); a great-granddaughter, Alaina Liberty; great-great-grandson, Dax Spencer, and one on the way; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Gretchen Lee Burt; his parents; sister, Louise Utterback; half-sisters, Harlene Bond, Florence Mize, and Lois Smith; half-brothers, Eugene Stout and Harold Burt. Floyd proudly served as a radioman in the United States Navy during WWII. In May, he was able to travel with his son to Washington D.C. on the Honor Flight. He was a member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 157 for over 50 years. He worked in the commercial heating and air conditioning field for Beldon and Company, Pfleging, Miller and Shaw, and Freitag-Weinhardt. After retirement, he and his wife, Gretchen moved to Florida. An active retiree, Floyd enjoyed both playing and calling bingo, playing golf, and bowling. After spending 27 years in Florida, Floyd and Gretchen returned to Terre Haute to be close to family. Floyd was a long time member of the Zorah Shrine, holding the position of the Director of Director Staff Emeritus. Per Floyds wishes, cremation was scheduled. A graveside ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20 in Roselawn Memorial Park with military honors.
