

Henry “Hank” Carpenter, Jr., 82, of Terre Haute, passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born on April 17, 1934, in Terre Haute, to Henry T. and Helen (Kracysi) Carpenter.
Hank is survived by his sisters, Charleen Wilson and husband Larry of Clinton, Lynn Carpenter of Terre Haute, and Kay Stevenson and husband Bob of Terre Haute; best friend, Leona Linnabary of Terre Haute; close friends, Norma Hess and Dave Hensley; a daughter, Candace Fournier of Texas; grandsons, Curtis and Matthew Fournier of Texas; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends from Post 104 and the Hungarian Hall.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen (Brown) Carpenter; his parents; and brothers, Fred Carpenter, Gary Carpenter, and Jack Paterscak.
Hank graduated from Gerstmeyer Tech. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He retired from the City of Terre Haute Parks Department after many years of supervising Deming Park. He was a beloved, well-known, lifetime member and honorary trustee of American Legion Post 104. Hank was also a 33 year member of the Hungarian Hall, Sacred Heart Church and was the former precinct committeeman for Democrat 7-K. Hank worked the polls during election time for many years. Hank enjoyed flower gardening and planted flowers all around his house and the American Legion. He loved putting together jigsaw puzzles. Hank also was excellent at dancing.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, December 11, at Roselawn Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 12, at the funeral home. Hank will be entombed next to his wife in Roselawn Memorial Park’s Chapel of Memories, with military honors graciously provided by Hank’s comrades from American Legion Post 104.
