Obituary of Joe Carter Jr.
Joe Carter Jr., 86, from Terre Haute passed away on Sunday Jan 2, 2022 in the loving arms of his beloved wife Mary Ann due to complications from Parkinsons and Dementia diagnosed 6 years ago. He became a diabetic at a very young age. Joe was born in Guthrie, Kentucky to Rose Buyher Carter and Joe Carter. Joe served in the United States Navy aboard the SS Admiral during the Korean war as a seaman. Joe loved interacting with people having 31 years in the retail business. His duties included buying, hiring, training personnel, advertising and supervision – he traveled with a lot of his jobs. His last job (17 years) that he retired from was Roots Department store in Terre Haute. In his younger years he was a paint and body man and sold cars. When he was 14, he was given the keys to the golf shop at the stadium to assist customers - after he got older he played golf at Rea Park. Joe and I loved traveling from the east coast to the west coast especially Las Vegas – we went there twice a year for many years. That was our haven to get away from every day life, to relax, enjoy the sun, go nightclubing and dancing. We would catch an Elvis show every trip we took. Joe was a lifetime member of VFW Post 972, American Legion Post 104 and the Hungarian Lodge. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife of 32 years Beverly Carter, his sisters Juanita Hogue, Frances Reynolds, Dorothy Miller and Betty Hanner (Joe and Betty sang duets at the Moose Lodge), daughter Amy Spivey, special nephew Billy Joe Harris, mother-in-law Elizabeth Leusing and his 2 companions Lady and Skippy. Joe is survived by his wife of 35 years (we just celebrated our anniversary in Nov) – usually we would go out to the VFW but due to covid we haven’t been in anywhere, so we ordered takeout from Texas Roadhouse – had our bottle of wine and watched our wedding video – a lot of wonderful memories. Joe is also survived by his sons Rick Carter and his wife Kathy, Joe Carter and Brent Barnhart and Deanna Foxworthy. His daughter Diane Biddle and her husband Cory. His grandchildren Tony Biddle and Dymond Daniels, Caitlyn Biddle and Tay Dennis, Brandon Biddle and Kyle Barnhart. His great granddaughters Rose and Reign Dennis. His sister-in-law Margaret Leusing and son-in law Randy Spivey. His special friends Susie and Mose Nasser (who got Joe started in the furniture business) and Mary Helen and Wayne Watson. His precious Petie who he called Pete Pete. Joe had many nieces and nephews. I would like to thank all the staff at Union Hospital especially nurse Ginger on the 4th Floor. Also, a thank you to the nurses and CNAs at Meadows Manor East. A special thanks to Dr. Spicklemire and Dr. Kuduro for taking good care of Joe. Private services were held. Joe was laid to rest at Roselawn next to his wife Beverly and daughter Amy. “You Will Forever Be In My Heart” your Mary Ann
