John had retired from Shanks Motors. He was a member of the Wabash Valley Scottish Society and Prairie Park Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Evelyn Coakley, Jean Reece, niece Connie Gill Frost, and his wife Mary Gill Steward.
Surviving are his daughters: Bonnie Moerdyk and her husband Ken and Karen Kamp and her husband Rick; granddaughters, Amy, Lori, and Brandy; four great-grandchildren, family, and many dear friends.
Visitation will be held from 1 until 2 on Saturday, July 26 at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2 p.m., on Saturday, at the funeral home, with Pastor Allen McQueen officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Per his family’s request, visitors are asked to kindly refrain from wearing perfumes, colognes, and other scented products.
