Karen Sue Base

Karen Sue Base, 65, of Terre Haute, Indiana, entered Heavens gates on Sunday, April 1, 2018. Karen passed away in her home, surrounded by her adoring husband, children and grandchildren. She was the loving wife to Martin Base and mother of Roberta Jo Abercrombie (Michael), Brandy Sue Robertson (Scott), Frances Dawn Daugherty and Marika Base. Karen was also the doting “Nan” to Eugenia Welch (Shawn), Brian Guess, Amber Maffioli, Robert Easton III (Caitlyn), Devan William Kirk, Jenn Hollifield, Jesse Hodge, Ashling Lynch and Liam Lynch, and the “love of her life,” Zachary Bennett. She was a great-grandmother to five and two on the way. Karen was known as “Mom” or “Nan” to so many more outside of her own family. She was often described as a “mother to many and a stranger to few.” She lived to love anyone and everyone she came in contact with, whether in her career of choice as a professional caregiver to individuals with disabilities or to those that were so fortunate to happen along her path during this life. If there was one example she strived to live was that everyone deserved to be loved and cared for. She selflessly opened her heart and her home to all, often doing without in order to give her all. She made her corner of the world a better place and will be missed by many. Karen requested a “Celebration of Life” in lieu of a funeral or memorial of herself.
