

Kenneth Lee Gardner, 75, of Terre Haute, passed away on the afternoon of Wednesday, August 14, 2013, in his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on March 20, 1938, in Belle, WV, to Paul Kenneth and Bess Lee (Ports) Gardner. He graduated from Rockville High School in 1956. Ken served in the United States Navy Construction Battalion for 4 years, retired from Eli Lilly and Company in 1993. He was a member of St. Joseph University Parish in Terre Haute. He served as a team member of Engaged Encounter for many years. Ken enjoyed spending time woodworking and gardening. He was also the Greatest Grandpa Ever.
Ken is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carolyn J. (Reynolds) Gardner; his children, David (Diane) Gardner, Paula Chellie (Beth) Gardner, Kimberly (Tony) Edwards, Lewis Gardner, Jacqueline Creasey, and William (Kari) Gardner; a brother Donald (Jean) Gardner of Montezuma; maternal aunt Katherine Turner of Dunbar, WV; 15 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Donna Cheezem.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 17 at St. Joseph University Parish with a Mass of Christian Burial taking place at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ken’s name to Hospice of the Wabash Valley, 400 8th Avenue, Terre Haute, IN 47804.
