Obituary of Larry Irwin Wetnight
Larry Irwin Wetnight, 82, of Terre Haute, IN passed away April, 20, 2024. Born in Vincennes, IN on September 28, 1941, he was the son of Harry Wetnight and Irene Guttovz Wetnight, who preceded him in death. Larry served 27 years in the Michigan and Indiana National Guard and was a dedicated Mason for over 50 years. He retired from Vigo County School Corporation as an HVAC technician. He had a passion for restoring and rebuilding antique cars. He spent much of his free time working in his car shop and attending countless car shows where he won numerous awards. He was also a model train enthusiast and throughout the years had built an extensive layout. He was an ambitious man. You could always count on him to be the first person to lend a hand. He found joy in being a mentor to family and friends, from sharing his knowledge of cars to life wisdom. Larry spent many days in his shop, always with his open light on in the window, signaling to friends he was open for business to provide automotive assistance and an ear to listen. If you stayed long enough he would put you right to work alongside him. Larry found great delight in being his grandkids’ chauffeur in one of his classic cars for their proms and weddings. His grandchildren will always remember the fun they had operating his model train together, visiting him at car shows, and the excitement of riding his third generation go-cart his four children once enjoyed as kids. He was a dedicated father and grandfather. Although a man with many hobbies, his favorite place to spend his time was with his family. You could see and feel the joy radiating from him every time he was able to be with his four children at the same time. They all find peace knowing his post-retirement years were filled with doing all the things he loved most. Larry is survived by his children, Lisa (Bob) West, Lori Writt, Larry (Lila) Wetnight, and Kari (Bob) Rigsby; mother of his children, Sharon Collings; brother Jack Wetnight; grandchildren Conner Writt, Emily Writt, Austin (Emily) Wetnight, Lanée Wetnight (Aaron), Cliff (Amanda) Rigsby, Tiffani Rigsby Silotto (Pat), Shelbi (Tim) Reedy, Samantha Rigsby; and nine great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home in Terre Haute on Saturday, April 27, 2024 beginning at 10:00 a.m. with services immediately following at 2:00 p.m with Masonic Services by Social Lodge #86. The funds will be donated to the Automotive Services pathway of the Career & Technical Education program so Larry can continue sharing his love and passion of automotive education with future generations.
