Marge was born on the family farm in Colby, Kansas on October 2, 1938, to the late Heinrich and Martha Reimer Goossen. Marge graduated from Meade Bible Academy in Meade, Kansas in 1956. She received her Bachelor of Nursing Degree at Bethel College in Newton, Kansas in 1960, followed by her Nurse Anesthetist Degree at Grace Hospital School of Anesthesia in Detroit, Michigan in 1968. Between degrees, Marge worked as a surgical nurse at Denver General Hospital in Colorado. It was in Denver where she found a love for snow skiing.
Soon after graduating from anesthesia school, Marge met Charles "Charlie" Kehrt on a blind date, and they were married on May 9, 1969. They were blessed with three children. Susan and Stephen were born while they lived in Detroit, and Sara soon came after their move to Plano, Texas. Marge worked as a nurse anesthetist in Labor and Delivery at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas for over 30 years and over 1,000 births. This was a job that she loved. UPon her retirement in 2008, she and Charlie moved to Georgia.
As the spouse of an avid sports fan, Marge quickly learned to enjoy spectator sports. Her favorites included the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, and the Atlanta Braves. None of these teams, however, could compare to the joy she felt watching her children and grandchildren participate in their various sports and activities. She could get so emotionally involved watching her children compete, that if any game was close, she often would get too nervous and had to stop watching.
Marge's dedication to helping others was not limited to her professional career. She also volunteered in various programs within the United Methodist Church. These included mentoring at-risk teens, delivering food to the elderly, and working in food pantries.
At the center of Marge's life was her faith. She grew up in the Mennonite Church and, after marrying Charlie, joined the Methodist Church. She and Charlie rarely missed a Sunday service, and Marge loved attending Bible study classes.
Marge is survived by daughter Susan Kehrt Wellborn (Pete) of Atlanta, GA; son Stephen Kehrt (Amy) of Aledo, TX; daughter Sara Kehrt of Atlanta, GA; granddaughter Maggie Wellborn of New York, NY; granddaughters Ashley Kehrt and Elizabeth Kehrt of Aledo, TX; grandson James Kehrt of Aledo, TX; sister Luella Unruh (Dwight) of Enid, OK; sister Bernice Caspersen of La Crosse, WI; brother Ezra Goossen of Dublin, TX; brother Emray Goossen (Carol) of Albuquerque,k NM; and numerous nieces and nephews.
