As a young girl, she grew up on the family farm in Riley Township. She enjoyed the horses, cows, and other barnyard animals and looked forward to summers and swimming in the farm’s pond. She married Gene Marquis on April 23, 1953; they enjoyed 55 years together and traveling to many states, especially Minnesota in the summer and Florida in the winter.
