Obituary of Martha Joan Cottrell
Martha Joan (McClintock) Cottrell, 54, passed away April 12, 2019, surrounded by her family at the Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care, after a short battle against ovarian carcinosarcoma. She was laid to rest April 16, 2019, at Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute. Born March 26, 1965, in Terre Haute, Indiana, she is survived by her soulmate and husband of 35 years, Marty L. Cottrell; sons, Ben (Ashlee) and Adam (Leslee) Cottrell; grandchildren, Makayla, Wiley and A.J. Cottrell; mother, Jeanne Ruth (Gallion) McClintock; father, Wayne (Betty) McClintock; grandmother, Ruth Gallion; and siblings, Patty McClintock, Linda (Tim) Landes and Jim (Jonella) McClintock. She is also survived by Marty's parents, Paul and Janey Cottrell; brothers, Mike (Jessica) and Mark (Shannon) Cottrell; nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles; and countless other family and friends. Martha's favorite pastime was mowing her yard (she spent hours getting it just right and always said it was cheaper than therapy). She enjoyed organizing and hosting family get-togethers, riding horses and mules, camping with fellow riders, family cookouts, canning, and making homemade noodles and jellies. A wonderful cook, we'll especially miss the sugar cream pies and pea salad that were special requests at all gatherings. She and Marty enjoyed watching their kids and grandkids race on weekends and many fellow racers have become like family. Martha was a master storyteller - she could take the most ordinary event, and in the retelling, turn it into one of the funniest stories you'd ever heard, leaving you with an aching jaw and sore sides from laughter (if you ever heard one of her stories, you know what we're talking about). She loved weenie roasts around a fire, hosting the annual Christmas cookie decorating party, and caring for the many flowers, horses, mules, chickens, rabbits, stray dogs and assorted kids who were always around. Everyone she ever met became a member of the family (or was adopted, if you were lucky). She made an impression on everyone she met and will be sorely and forever missed by those who knew and loved her. The family cannot adequately express their gratitude to the nurses, aides and staff at the Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care, the Terre Haute Fire Department and St. Vincent Hospital for their excellent skills and loving care, as well as the ladies of F.A.C.T. (Fontanet Action Community Team) for the wonderful meal after the service, so we simply offer a sincere "thank you." Memorial donations may be made in Martha's name to the Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care, c/o Union Hospital, 1606 N. 7th St, Terre Haute, IN 47804.
