Mary A. Shepherd

Mary Alberta Mathes Shepherd, 92, passed away peacefully in her daughters home in Mooresville, IN on February 26, 2014. She was born on September 23, 1921 in Terre Haute to Mary Horesley Mathes and Albert Mathes. She was a graduate of Wiley High School, 1940. She was married to Frank P. Shepherd on March 28, 1949. She has been employed by Millard Parrot, U.S. Post Office, Wabash Fiber Box and Roots Dept. Store. She was co-owner of the Downtown Hair Designers. She was a member of St. Mark’s United Church of Christ. Alberta loved to travel, read and garden.

She is survived by her daughter; Patti Shepherd Staggs, and her husband Darrell of Mooresville; grandson’s; Patrick Staggs and his wife Shannon of Delaware, Adam Staggs and his wife Holly of Indianapolis, and Griffin Staggs and his wife Brittanie of North Carolina, three great grandchildren; Brenda Staggs, Carter Staggs, and Arilyn Staggs all of Delaware, several nieces, nephews and cousins, and a very special friend; Toni Roloff.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 54 years; Frank “Pat” Shepherd, four brothers; Harold Mathes, Billy Mathes, Bob Mathes and Paul Dailey.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, Indiana 47804, with Rev. Teresa O. Higus officiating; burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled on Monday March 3, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and 11:00 a.m. until service time on Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Mark United Church of Christ or St. Vincent Hospice.
