Richard graduated from Hamtrack High School in 1959. He began his career as a young man at Coney Island Restaurants in Michigan. He also was a supervisor and was chosen as Store Manager of the Year for the district twice by the McDonald’s Corporation. He also worked at Menards from 2013 to 2019.
An excellent bowler, Richard bowled for many years before becoming a father. Once Matt and Shannon arrived, he devoted his free time to them. Attending sporting events, recitals, and school functions became his hobbies. He helped coach his son’s baseball teams for years and was also on the Board of Directors for Terre Town Baseball, serving as treasurer for many years.
A great joy for him was spending time with his grandchildren. It made him happy to show them his backyard squirrels. He hand-fed many squirrels over the years and put out food for them and for the birds daily. Richard loved to build with wood and always came up with the most unique, silly designs. He had a great sense of humor and had so much fun making up jokes and riddles.
