

Robert Lewis McDonald, 83, of Terre Haute, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015, at IU Methodist Hospital, at 11:53 PM. He was born Oct. 25, 1931, in Dugger, Ind., as an only child, to Harley McDonald and Pansy Hofeditz McDonald. Robert’s parents preceded him in death.
Robert was a veteran of the Korean War and later retired from the United States Air Force, where he proudly achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Robert also served as a lieutenant on the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department, and retired with 31 years of service. Robert was known for his fun loving spirit and quick wit. He will dearly be missed by all of his family and friends.
Robert chose to be cremated. In honor of his wishes, a graveside service with military honors will be at Roselawn Memorial Park at a future date. Mattox-Wood Funeral Home assisted with arrangements. www.mattoxwoodfuneralhome.com
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Judith Ann Pierce McDonald, who not only lost her best friend, but the love of her life; children, Robert Michael McDonald and wife Sherry of West Terre Haute, and Robin Pirtle and husband Larry Joe of Rockville; step-children: Angelia Lyn Mason and husband Jeffrey Lee Mason of Lexington, Va., Julie Ann Vanlandingham and companion Tracey Alan Carr of Terre Haute, and William Terry Abel and companion Kathy Louise Mathes of Princess Lakes, Ind.; grandchildren: Katrina McDonald of Terre Haute, Trey and Amanda McDonald of West Terre Haute, Jurnee Pirtle of Rockville, Ashley Tomas B. Vickers and wife Yuki of Misawa, Japan, Victoria Leigh H. Mason of Lexington, Alexandra Nicole H. Mason of Lexington, Jessica Lyn Vanlandingham and fiancée Zachary Alan Kent of Terre Haute, Rachel Ann Vanlandingham of Terre Haute, and Shelby Irene Abel of Terre Haute; future great-granddaughter, Zooey Marie Kent; and all of his brothers of the Joseph A. Bray Detachment 471 Marine Corp League Terre Haute, Indiana.
