William Joseph Lowry

William Joseph Lowry, 81, of Rosedale, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2019, at his home, with family by his side. He was born on December 24, 1937 in Centenary to Edgar J. and Cora A. (Miller) Lowry.

Bill is survived by his wife of 33 years, Judy (McCracken-Martin) Lowry of Rosedale. Children: William C. Lowry (Amy) of Houston, TX, Robert C. Lowry of Belleville, IL, Brenda K. Christian (Greg) of Douglasville, GA. Step-children: Kevin L. Martin (Jennifer) of Eureka, MO, Chris D. Martin (Teri) of New Palestine, IN, Curtis D. Martin (Georgie) of Terre Haute. Grandchildren: Lena I. Lowry of Houston, TX; Crystal E. Foley (Zack) of Debary, FL; Robert “Ben” Lowry (Amanda) of Mascoutah, IL; Erin O. Lowry of St. Louis, MO; Zach T. Christian, Ethan G. Christian, Jeremy W. Christian, Adam M. Christian of Douglasville, GA. Step-grandchildren: Jason R. Martin of Eureka, MO; Alex H. Martin of Tuscaloosa, AL; Mackenzie V. Martin of New Palestine, IN; Jessica Hamilton (Kyle), Dustin C. Martin (Justus), and Sarah R. Martin of Terre Haute. Great-grandchildren: Catherine E. and Cassandra E. Foley of Debary, FL. Step-great-grandchildren: Dominick R.J. and Tyler J. Hamilton of Terre Haute; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Barry J. Lowry; grandson, Marshall A. Lowry; brother, Glen F. Lowry; and sisters, Lucille M. Kivlin, Martha L. Fetter, and Florida L. Lowry.

Bill graduated from Fontanet High School in 1956 where he participated in athletics and Vigo County 4-H Club. He attended ISU where he played on the baseball team as a catcher. He was also a troop leader for the Boy Scouts. He married Judy (McCracken) Martin on September 22, 1985. Bill worked for many years for the Bombardier Group (SeaDoo and SkiDoo division), Tractor Supply Company, and several other farm supply stores in sales, marketing, and advertising management. After many years of traveling and moving for work, Bill returned back to his family farm. He enjoyed the peaceful farm and country living. Bill was a history buff and especially enjoyed Civil War history and exploring cemeteries from that time period. He owned Lowry’s Antiques alongside of his wife, Judy. Bill and Judy attended Calvary Temple Church. Bill had a strong faith and participated in the Wabash Valley Walk to Emmaus.

Visitation will be held from noon until 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 9 at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, at the funeral home with Pastor Kyle Andrews officiating. Bill will be laid to rest in Sugar Grove Cemetery. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.mattoxwood.com
