

Billy Jack Kirby was born in Terrell, Texas on December 11th, 1927. His father was Clinton Thomas Kirby and his mother was Willie S. Brazell. He lost both parents at a young age. He was seven years old when his father was killed in a motor accident, and eleven years of age when his Mother passed away. He spend the next few years living with his older sisters until he joined the army in 1946. He spend the next twenty years in the US Army traveling the world serving his country. He was stationed in many countries and experienced a variety of cultures. His many stations included time served in the USA, French Morocco, France, Germany, Italy, Austria, and Korea as well as Japan and stop overs in exotic locales such as the Wake Islands and Guam. While stationed in Germany he met Christa and they had a relationship that lasted several years. They had a son. Billy Jack Kirby whom they referred to as Jacky. His Military travels took him around the world several times and in 1965, he decided to prepare for civilian life. In September of 1965, together with his son he returned to Scurry, Texas where they lived on a farm with his sister Dorothy and her husband Charles “Toots” Wampler for four years. In February of 1966 he retired from the Military after twenty years. A short time later he began a twenty year second career with the Federal Reserve Bank as a security guard. He lived in El Paso and Dallas during those Years. He married Brookie Gregory Bays and they lived in Flint, Texas until her passing in 2004. After that he moved to Arlington Texas where he lived until he moved into the Brookdale nursing home due to his failing health in 2014. He was very proud of his grandkids and his great grandkids. He never failed to comment on them. His proudest achievement was his military service. Those who preceded him are his parents, wife Brookie Gregory Bays Kirby, special thoughts for Christa A. Guethlein; siblings: Clinton Thomas Kirby, Raymond D. Usleton, Dorothy (Kirby) Wampler, Minnie Lee (Kirby) Pearman, Ovie Usleton and Beatrice (Kirby) Byrd. Those left to cherish his memory are his son Billy (Jacky) Kirby and wife Kay; grandchildren John Michael Kirby and wife Carolyn and Christina Maree Kirby; great grandchildren Christian Arnold, Justin Kirby, Kennedy Kirby and Logan Johnson; numerous nieces, nephews, step grandchildren, step-great grandchildren and extended family and friends who will miss him dearly. Final memorial and graveside service for my Mr.Kirby Sr. is planned for Friday, February 26, at 1 pm. Billy's ashes will be placed in their final resting place in FOX cemetery located in Rand ,Texas., A place of quiet and peace out in the country that he loved very much. In accordance with his wishes it will be a small affair with only close family members in attendance.Thank you for all the support and well wishes. Don't worry about flowers. Billy would tell you to take your kids and grandkids out to lunch and tell them :" Ya'll get what you want! I'm paying today" ! Just make sure it's one of those "all you can eat" places because he always wanted to get his money's worth !!
