

John V. Blain, Jr., 86, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2015 in Kaufman. He was born to John Sr. and Geneva Blain on October 29, 1928 in Terrell, TX. John went to the University of Texas and received a degree in engineering. He honorably and proudly served his country in the Army for 33 years, receiving several accommodation medals. He also worked as an engineer for Texas Department of Transportation of Kaufman and Dallas Counties for 45 years. One of his proudest accomplishments was when he became a licensed, professional surveyor. After retirement, he served as a consultant with Dean International. He was also Kaufman County’s representative on the North Central Texas Council of Governments Regional Transportation Council and sat on the technical advisory committee for over 20 years. John was a member of the Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce in Terrell and Kaufman. He was a devoted and longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Terrell, TX. He loved collecting steins and had over 300 different ones. “Papa John”, as known by his family, was a quiet, hard working man who above all else wanted to please the people he served. Those who have preceded him are his parents and his wife Nakita Blain. Those left to cherish his memory are his children: Ted Paulk and wife Deb, Jim Norton and wife Kathy, Roger Powell and wife Kim and David Powell and wife Theresa; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren who will miss him dearly.
