Martha Henry Rice Anderson, age 93 was born January 14, 1923 in Kaufman County, and passed away peacefully on July 13, 2016 in Conroe, Texas. She was the daughter of Sterling Henry Rice and Ada Bell Rice. Martha graduated from Kaufman High School in 1941. On April 8, 1942, she married A. W. “Dub” Anderson in Kaufman, and he preceded her in death on June 29, 2002. Martha and Dub lived their entire lives in Kaufman County. In the 1960’s, she worked at the local Adams grocery store in Crandall, Texas, and later after many years of service, she retired from the Kroger grocery chain. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Crandall, Texas. Martha answered to several names; of course, she was Mother to her son, her sisters and daughter in law called her Mart, her nieces and nephews called her Aunt Mart, and she was Grandma to her grandsons, granddaughters and four great grandchildren. While she did not have many hobbies, her great joy was to have visitors come to her home where she served them food while sitting around the dining table enjoying their company. Family was so very important to her, and she assisted a distant relative in the genealogical research of the Rice family. She will always be remembered for her kind and giving spirit and her love for her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and three siblings; brother, Willie Rice, and sisters, Mary Bell Rice Bailey and Minnie Rice Graham. Martha is survived by her son, Ronald Anderson and wife Glenda of Conroe, Texas; grandsons, Rodney Anderson and wife Carolyn of Sugar Land, Texas; Joshua Anderson and wife Courie of Houston, Texas; and four great grandchildren, Wyatt, Taylor, Jacob and Sophie. She is also survived by two sisters, Joyce Carnes and husband, Jimmy, of Terrell, Texas, and Patti Gorman of Kemp, Texas, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. Visitation with family will be held at Anderson-Clayton Funeral Home in Terrell, Texas, on Sunday, July 17, 2016 from 1:00 – 2:00 pm; followed by graveside services at the Kaufman Cemetery in Kaufman, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the American Bible Society, which was one of Ms. Anderson’s favorite charities or the charity of your choice.
