Belva “Chestene” Shuffield, 79, passed away peacefully at Hospice of Texarkana early Monday morning, September 22, 2025, after a lengthy illness of dementia, surrounded by family and friends. She was born February 9, 1946, in Texarkana, Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Grace Stewart.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Eddie Ray Shuffield, three sons, Reese Shuffield of Texarkana, Mark and Clay Shuffield of Little Rock, and daughter Wendy Norman and her husband Kevin of Texarkana, 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, one sister Penny Arnold of Texarkana, 1 niece, 1 nephew, 3 great nieces and nephews, a slew of cousins, and many nurses, caregivers and aides.
Chestene was a loving and caring person who thought of others before herself. She was honest, a rule follower and always strove to do that which is right in the eyes of God. She loved gardening, antiquing, crafting, Christmas, cooking meals for her family, camping at Shady Lake, playing the piano and visiting with friends. Throughout her life she was in continuous service to the people in her church through Sunday school, vacation bible school, choir and music, and by giving of herself to those in need.
The family would like to give special thanks and recognition to Hospice of Texarkana and Southern Caregivers for their love, dedication, and support during her care over the years. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to one of these facilities or Christ Church.
