Ed was born January 27, 1937 in Texarkana, Arkansas, to Jacob Randle Hanna and Mary Dorothy Culver Hanna. He spent his elementary school years in Alvin, Texas. The family, which included younger brother John and younger sister Mary Ann, moved back to Texarkana in 1950. He attended St. Edwards Catholic High School in Texarkana and graduated as co-valedictorian in 1955. He attended Texarkana College and then transferred to Lamar State College of Technology (now Lamar University) in Beaumont, Texas, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1960. Upon graduation from college he enlisted in the 49th Armored Division, Texas National Guard. He accepted a position with Day & Zimmerman Engineering Division at Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant in 1962 and subsequently transferred to Red River Army Depot, where he was employed until he retired on September 30, 1997 with 34 years of government service. He continued to maintain his Professional Engineering License after retiring from Red River and embarked on a second career as an environmental engineer for HEC Environmental Group, retiring in April 2007. He loved his work and his co-workers.
On April 15, 1967 he married Linda Lou Stropeni. They raised two children, Mary Cecilia and Charles Randle, in Texarkana and were members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where Ed served as an usher from 1968 to 2013. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. His greatest joy was his family, and he was a devoted husband and father. He also was an antique car enthusiast and enjoyed military history and genealogy. He was a man of his word who took care of others all of his life; he is now able to rest at last.
