Before immigrating to the United States in 1964, he had already earned his first doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. When he immigrated to the U.S., he arrived in Alabama with $7 in his pocket. His first week in America, he enrolled at Auburn University to pursue his Masters degree, he secured a graduate assistantship, and moved into student housing. He finished his second doctorate, a PhD in Nutrition, in 1972.
After graduation, Dr. Krishna briefly taught at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri from 1972 to 1977 as a college professor. He then changed careers and becoming a food inspector for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 1977 and moved himself and his family to Texarkana, Arkansas. He received many commendations at work and retired with the title of Inspector-in-Charge in 2007.
Dr. Krishna was a very proud man who loved his family deeply. He always was there for the big events, like the graduations from high school and college as well as being a good grandfather to his only grandson, Carter. He was also the one who was always willing to have the hard conversations and show up when no one else would or could. He was obsessively consistent in his unwavering support for his family. He also practiced living in the present and not worrying about what did or didn't happen in the past, and he attempted to teach his family the value of living in the present and practicing patience when it came to the big things. He also believed that if you practiced self-respect, self-confidence and self-esteem, your success was both inevitable and already achieved.
He is survived by his wife, Shashi, of 52 years, as well as his sons Samir, Niraj, and Rahul, his grandson Carter, and his brothers Madan and Rajesh and their families as well as his brother-in-law Sushil Gauriar and his family.
