

John Wayne Monroe was born September 24, 1934, in Texarkana, TX, to John J. and Bernadine Monroe. He was saved when he was 12 years old and was baptized at Highland Park Baptist Church. He graduated from Texas High School, Texarkana Jr. College and Baylor University. On November 25, 1955 he married Mary Anthony and they would’ve been married 70 years this year. After graduating from the University of Texas Dental School in 1962 he was drafted into the army, in which he rose to the rank of major and spent one year in Vietnam. After being in private practice for a few years he and his wife were appointed by the International Mission Board as missionaries to Zimbabwe, Africa. He was a dentist at the mission hospital there and later served as a roving treasurer in South Africa and Kenya before retiring after 26 ½ years. After a year, they went as volunteers to Zambia and returned to Texarkana.
He is survived by his wife Mary, his daughter Susan, his grandson Aaron and wife Madi Fluharty, and his great-granddaughter Luna.

Graveside funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
