Louis E. Merchant, 89, of Texarkana, AR passed away November 21, 2018 in a local hospital. Mr. Merchant was born September 22, 1929 in Altus, OK. He grew up in Horatio, AR where he graduated high school in 1947. He retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer from the Navy in 1969 and from SWEPCO after 20+ years.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Kathy Sherfey and Connie Merchant, granddaughter Marion Sherfey, sister Mary Ada Cardwell and brother William Lawrence Merchant.
Survivors include his wife, Iva Mae Merchant of Texarkana, AR; sons, David Merchant of Amberg, Germany and Michael Merchant of Louisville, KY; daughter, Nancy Myers of Yukon, OK; brother, Raymond Curtis Merchant of Dallas, TX; two sisters, Betty Young of Arlington, TX and Irene Romine of Horatio, AR.
9 grandchildren; Jennifer Fitzpatrick, Lora Peter, Ivy Sherfey, John Sherfey, Shannon Clinton, Jared Merchant, Joshua Sampson, Jacob Sampson, and 10 great grandchildren.
Family will receive friends from 1 to 2pm Saturday, November 24, 2018 at East Funeral Home-Downtown with funeral service to follow at 2pm.
Burial will be in Memorial Gardens under the direction of East Funeral Home - Downtown.
