Mike was born on November 10, 1936, in Neosho, Missouri, to Jasper Franklin and Leona Barrett Mitchell.
He was preceded from this earth by his parents, his sisters, Irene Mitchell and Amy Lucille Allen, and brother, Arthur "Art" Leon Mitchell and second father, Grover Taylor.
Missing him are his wife of 46 years, Nikki Roquemore Mitchell; daughter, Rebecca J. Mitchell Harvey son, John-Micheal R. Mitchell and second son, VonDerrick M. Bradley (LaShona); grandchildren: Jaren, Micayla, Clara and Ryan Harvey and Alexis Hendrix-Bradley. Also sister-in-law, Dorothy Mitchell, his brother, Thomas J. Mitchell. Missing him too are special nieces and nephews, Marie M. Baker
( Larry), Sharon Ely, Diane Allen (Bob), Darlene Ely (Bruce) and Linda Auberry (Tom) and Mike Allen (Jeanne). Also, Mellissa, Sara and Amanda, Dustin and Austin. Also Mike's longtime friend, M. A. Davis.
Mike served in the U. S. Navy for 23 years as an electronic tech and got to travel the world, serving in Vietnam, twice. Upon his retirement, we joined his brother's family in Texarkana to enjoy the fishing and hunting, and he did! He went to work at Cooper Tire and Rubber Company for over 19 years, as a millwright and fire marshal.
He was "one of the good ones", who was generous with his time and many talents - and never hesitated to help family or a friend. He enjoyed fishing and gardening and always shared his bounty. He loved to create and problem-solve. His woodwork, carpentry and knife-making were most fulfilling to him when he could share whatever he worked on with others. He always had a witty saying or amusing tune to share. His amazing life stories live on through all those that heard them. He will be missed, very much, by many.
Please consider a donation to Hospice of Texarkana, ASPCA, Texarkana Animal Shelter, Randy Sams, Runnin WJ-Ranch or Villalobos of New Orleans (Pit Bulls and Parolees) in lieu of flowers.
A celebration of life will be held 1 p.m. Monday, November 27, 2017 at Bringle Lake West Pavillion, Texarkana, TX.
