Mary Catherine Sword

It is with profound sorrow but immense joy that we announce the passing of Mary Catherine (Hay)Sword on November 7, 2020. She had courageously faced many health issues before she was enfolded into the loving arms of Our Lord Jesus and our Blessed Virgin Mary. Mary Catherine was born on October 20, 1941 and preceded in death by her beloved parents, Haskell (Hank) and Margaret Bann Hay.

Mary Catherine, often known to her family members as "Kiki" was a joyful child devoted to her family and her faith. Growing up in St. Edward's Catholic Church and St. Edward's School, she brought life and laughter to all who knew her, sometimes to the consternation of the blessed nuns attempting to educate her and her many friends and family.

After graduation from high school, Mary Catherine began working at State First National Bank and later was employed at St. Michael's Hospital until her retirement.

Mary Catherine lifted many hearts with her special calling, bringing true love, empathy, hope and humor to all of her family, friends, coworkers and those in need. Our Lord always knew where she was needed most and through her loving devotion to Him, she was led day to day as a true servant of God.

Mary Catherine is survived by her former spouse and lifelong friend, Norman Sword; their daughter, Angela Sword Rubey; their former son-in-law James Rubey; son, Michael Sword and daughter-in-law, Jennifer; grandchildren Andrew Rubey, Nicholas Rubey, Aaron Poole, Annaleise Sword, Parker Sword and Max Sword. Mary Catherine's surviving siblings include Robert (Bob) Hay, Blanche Hay Reed, John Hay, Edward (Eddy) Hay, Margaret (Pardy) Mentzel, Wilma Hay Gerrald and Doris Hay Morris.

A rosary will be recited at 9:45am with a memorial mass to follow at 10am Saturday, November 21, 2020 at St Edwards Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of East Funeral Home-Downtown.
