Ann M. Chioles, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and dear friend, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2023, in Spring, Texas, surrounded by loving family and friends. She was eighty-five years old.
Ann Mary Demarais, born to Lloyd and Alice (Bombardier) Demarais on September 9, 1937, in the small, rural community of Red Lake Falls, Minnesota, was seventh in a line of thirteen children – a credit to where she undoubtedly developed her strong, independent spirit, loving heart and sense of humor. Ann completed her elementary education at St. Joseph’s Catholic School and earned her high school diploma in 1955 from Lafayette High School, Red Lake Falls, Minnesota.
After high school, Ann and several of her sisters and close friends relocated to Chicago, Illinois, where she worked as a stenographer. While in Chicago, Ann grew her unwavering appreciation for the arts and lively enthusiasm for social events. Through her sister Audrey, Ann met Constantine (Curt) Chioles, who became her greatest love.
On June 6, 1959, Ann and Curt married at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church of Chicago and settled in Morton Grove, Illinois. Staying true to her roots, she upheld the importance of family, raising their three children surrounded by the love of their extended families.
In 1972, Ann and Curt partnered with Curt’s sister, Sophia, and her husband, Nickolas Demet, and opened Parfais Restaurant. Parfais, later known as Maxwell’s, blossomed over the years to become a well-known and successful community establishment that endured for decades and cultivated many meaningful and lasting relationships. Those relationships, and many others, are a testament to Ann's caring personality and love for all – it is her love that will remain her legacy.
In 2001, after the passing of Constantine, and her son Dean Chioles, Ann retired to Mesa, Arizona. She spent her time traveling throughout the world and nurturing relationships with her family and friends.
Ann is survived by her children John (Claudia) Chioles of Spring, Texas, and Victoria (Terry) Schreiner of Mesa, Arizona; brothers Robert Demarais, Curtis Demarais, Richard (Alice) Demarais, Bernard (Jan) Demarais, and Michael (Janet) Demarais; sisters Celeste Cater and Judy (Gene) Bauer; sisters-in-law Agnes Demarais and Gloria Demarais; former daughters-in-law Wendy Greenleaf and Nasreen (Vicente) Herrera; her grandchildren Constantine (Ashley) Chioles, Laudina (Kurt) Rodenhiser, Sennah Chioles, Amer Chioles, Tyler (Sharon) Schreiner, Melody (Brian) Hesse, Amber (Don) Abercrombie, Travis (Savanna) Schreiner, and Brittany (Joshua) Marroquin; and was also blessed with great-grandchildren Noah Chioles, Jace Chioles, Dean Rodenhiser and Sally Rodenhiser; her many bonus great-grandchildren; and her nieces and nephews.
