Barbara was born February 16, 1932, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, and later met the love of her life in Ponca City. She married Philip Zuvanich in 1951, and they spent 53 years together raising their family, traveling the world, and playing the occasional round of golf. She and Phil were members of April Sound Church near their home in Montgomery, where they lived for almost 30 years. She enjoyed baking cookies and cinnamon rolls, watching OU football, and playing bridge with her friends.
Though she visited every corner of the world, Barbara’s favorite place to be was at home surrounded by loved ones. She hosted family gatherings at her house every summer. As her kids and grandkids used to say, her house was the best all-inclusive resort around.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Phil; her son, Paul; and grandson, Phil. She is survived by her children, Debbie Averill and husband Steve; Mary Newport and husband Mike; David Zuvanich and wife Jody; daughter-in-law Sandy Zuvanich; seven grandchildren, and three (soon to be four) great-grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m., August 9, at April Sound Church, 67 1/2 April Wind South, Montgomery, Texas 77356. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Charles B. Stewart - West Branch Library in Montgomery.
