I am his son and I have a few memories with him every time we had cub scouts in the morning we would always go to the playground in our neighborhood we had so much fun every time we did that he cared for me and my family and all of his friends in the name of Jesus Christ he will be missed

Dear Alicia, Jack and Emily

I have three stories for you about David.  I grew up with him in Yorkshire and saw lots of him from when he was born until we were 20 years old.

Story number one is about the board game Monopoly.  Have you played it?  It's where you throw the dice and land on properties to buy them and then build as many houses and hotels to try and win.  

David and I used to love playing Monopoly when we were aged 9 to 13.  You will be able to imagine how much David liked to sit on one side of the board facing towards me on the other side of the table determined to win.  We'd start with the first roll of the dice, Let battle begin.  David fancied himself as a businessman and so did I.  We were both determined to get the best properties and build the most houses and hotels.  I can't remember if David won more often than I did but I do remember the concentration, the laughter we had whilst playing and the fact that I had a friend like David who enjoyed playing it as much as I did.  We would sit for hours blissfully playing it.

Another story is about the time I went on a homemade wooden raft with David and Graeme on to Ellerton Lake.  Imagine us aged about 12 in the middle of summer dragging a few bits of wood held together with some ropes on top of some barrels to the edge of the lake.  We all jumped on it and pushed ourselves onto the water and paddled to the middle of the lake.  Again, I remember a lot of playing and laughing that day including us rocking the raft so much from side to side that it tipped over and one of our watches sank to the bottom.  It will still be there.  Neither David nor I were particularly sporty or the type to be jumping on rafts the whole time but that was another great fun day with a friend.

Finally, I remember David when we were 18 to 20 years old.  We would each go out to parties and pubs in Yorkshire where our friends all went too.  David always had a smile as he saw you across the room and would come over to say hello.  He would always ask how things were and listen carefully and engage in a conversation about any topic.  One of the things I particularly loved about David was hearing about adventures he had been on in his car where he had met new people or been to a fun party.  David's curiosity about things and about the world was infectious.

David has gone to heaven.  His spirit of welcoming, warmth and curiosity live with you.  Take great strength from that.  He is with you wherever you are and he loves you very much.  

If you ever want to talk about games of Monopoly, an outing on the lake or seeing each other in the pub growing up, I will always be happy to tell you more.

David was my cousin and being slightly younger than him I can truly say I have known him all my life. I struggle to find the words to express both my grief at his passing and the heartache I feel for his closest loved ones, and I'm sure I will not do so adequately.  

Growing up I had a real soft spot for David. When he was younger he had a sometimes unconventional way of going about things which made him truly unique. We were both the children of farmers and whilst retaining a love for the countryside, both moved to London as young adults and perhaps took a slightly less expected path in life. I think maybe I felt some sort of unspoken infinity with him because of that. Whilst in London he was always so very kind and thoughtful towards me, nothing was too much trouble. And while renting his flat after he had met Alicia and moved to Texas, he was certainly the easiest landlord I've ever had to deal with!

As an adult David was a good and fair man. He went with his heart and was loyal and protective over loved ones. If things didn't go according to plan he picked himself up, dusted himself off and chose another course of action.  There was no stopping him once he had decided on something, and this he proved when he met Alicia and was determined not to let a vast ocean and a mere 5000 miles get in the way of true love. I think it was that determination to grasp life that I most admired in him. 

Although distance had meant in recent years I hadn't seen David as much, the times I did were with Alicia, Jack and Emily, and I was so happy though not surprised to see what a great Dad he had become, and that he and Alicia seemed so much in love and content in life. 

David you left us too soon. You will be so very missed by us all and I feel proud and privileged to have known you as a friend. Sleep peacefully x

My thoughts are with you all at this very sad time.  I remember David as a very happy little boy and his first teacher assures me that he was very neat and particular.  It was so good to see him when he visited England and to meet Alicia, Jack and Emily. David will live on in Jack and Emily and we hope to see them when they visit England and watch them grow up.

David and I work together at Nabors and know each other very well during Big Foot project. He was always helpful and dependable. We lost a good and intelligent man. It was a pleasure to work with him.

I am thinking about you all at this very sad and difficult time. There are no words to express the depth of sorrow I feel, having known David's family for all of my adult life, there is nothing to prepare any of us to cope with the emptiness, and loss of a beloved one.

I never met David but know his lovely parents Margaret and John and they spoke so fondly of him and also of his much loved wife Alicia and their two children.  I am so very sorry for your loss, husband, Daddy, son, brother, uncle and work colleague  - you will miss him so much.  You are all very much in my thoughts at this very sad time. David was always ready to help to the fullest extent possible. He had a big heart and a bright mind. It was truly a pleasure to have worked with him in the front line for eight years. We had such a great time. He will be missed dearly. My deepest condolences to the Thompson family.
