Eleanor Marie Wall Cater, age 82, of Spring, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2023. Born in New York City on August 7, 1941, to Clyde and Ellen Wall (McDonnell), Eleanor grew up in the Bronx. Eleanor graduated High School at Mount St. Ursula Academy, a girl's catholic school, and married Frederick Thomas Cater on March 4, 1961. They remained happily married and deeply devoted to each other for 55 years, until Fred’s passing. Their three children were Mark Thomas (deceased), Lisa Marie, and Gregory Mark.
Eleanor and Fred honeymooned in Miami, Florida. They remained in the Bronx for three years until moving briefly to Providence, RI. They raised their children, Lisa and Greg, in Huber Heights, Ohio, a suburb of Dayton. After years as a full-time homemaker, Eleanor worked as a bookkeeper until deciding to attend Wright State University. She earned an Accounting degree in 1981, enjoying her College graduation ceremony a week before Lisa's High School graduation. Eleanor worked as an accountant in Dayton and later in Spring, Texas. Her move to Spring, Texas, in 1981 was initiated by her husband's job promotion and relocation. Although she considered Spring, Texas, her home, she always retained her Bronx, New York accent.
Eleanor enjoyed travel. As a child, she and her mother spent several summers in her mother's hometown Westport, Mayo County, Ireland, with her mother's extended family. They also traveled to Alabama to visit her father’s family. In the 1970s, Eleanor and Fred took their children to Europe, traveling to Holland, Germany, Austria, and Italy. They continued to travel after their children were grown, enjoying many trips throughout the United States, Central Europe, Scandinavia, and Russia.
Besides being a devoted and loving mother, she was also a wonderful grandmother to her two grandchildren Jessica and David. Eleanor and Fred were generous with both their time and gift-giving. They took their grandchildren to Disney World and were always present for birthdays and holidays. Thanksgiving was a cherished tradition which Eleanor hosted beautifully and Christmas was at her daughter and son-in-law's home so that she and Fred could enjoy watching the children open their gifts. Secretly Eleanor was the Easter bunny throughout her grandchildren's childhood since she liked creating beautiful Easter baskets with fine-quality candy. The family remains grateful to Eleanor for her warmhearted and affectionate dedication.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frederick Thomas Cater, her infant son, Mark Thomas Cater, son-in-law David Myron Burke, and her brother, Jack Wall.
Her surviving family is Lisa Marie Burke (Cater), Gregory Mark Cater, grandchildren; David Thomas Burke (wife Karolin and great-granddaughter Leonie) and Jessica Marie Ritacco (Burke) (husband Marc Ritacco). Nieces and nephews Robert Wall, John Wall, Kathy Wall Roholt, William Wall, Kenneth Wall, Richard Wall, Christopher Wall, along with their families.
Sister-in-law Doris Santianna (deceased husband John) and their children, Bill, Michael, and Donna. Her brother-in-law, Albert Cater, and his wife, Joyce (Kay Cater, deceased). All of whom were blessed by Eleanor's love and kindness.
Eleanor's kind, generous spirit, and loving memory will live on in all fortunate enough to have known her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society honoring Eleanor and Fred's commitment to supporting cancer research.
