Emma Leigh Covington, 18 years old, died Sunday, August 9, 2015. She was born June 5, 1997 in St. Charles, Missouri, the second of three children to James Covington II and Amy Hughes Covington. Emma was full of energy from a young age, bubbling with her contagious smile and sweet voice that made everyone around her love life, the way Emma loved life. Emma graduated from The Woodlands High School in May with plans to attend Blinn College in Bryan Texas.
Her friends describe her as “sunshine, like a sunflower”, the best friend anyone could have, who encouraged them to reach their dreams, never giving up.
Emma was a member of Woodlands United Methodist Church. The Loft, where services will be held, was a special place to her and many friends.
Emma has an older brother Collin (21) and a younger sister Ella, soon to be 11 years old. Collin was her “big” brother and protector. Ella looked up to her Emma who has taught her so much about life already. They thought the world of their sister.
Emma was preceded in death by a maternal grandfather, Hiram Hughes, a special uncle, Mark Hughes and a paternal grandmother, Elaine Bourg Covington. A maternal grandmother, Leah Hughes and paternal grandfather James Covington survive her. Emma was loved and treasured by many aunts, uncles and cousins who each have unique moments shared with Emma. Families and friends are here from throughout the South, Midwest, Northeast and West Coast to honor her.
The multitude of friends and their families are countless. Their names we have in our hearts and their love and friendship will never be forgotten.
Visitation to honor Emma’s life will be held at the Loft, United Methodist Church on August 13 at 12:30 PM. The service will follow at 2:00 PM. Please remain with us at the church after the service for a time of fellowship and sharing.
